Pelvic exercise with timers, reminders and other men checking in

Desire after 40, the bedroom, and feeling sure of yourself with her.

Men ask us about this every day, usually late and usually in private. You notice things you didn't at 30. You'd like to feel wanted by her, and like yourself when you reach for her. We built Modig around the questions men actually type, and we answer them here in plain words.

Is it normal to notice all this after 40?

It's common, and most men notice it slowly. The list we hear is short and very consistent: less drive by the end of the day, getting up once or twice in the dark to use the bathroom, a weight at the gym that used to feel easy, a long shift that now asks more of you.

And desire. It's still there, but quieter some evenings, or a little less sure of itself. Many men your age wonder whether she notices. You'd like to feel strong and present again, for her, for your kids, at work. That's a reasonable wish, and naming it plainly is where we start.

If something specific worries you, a doctor is the right person to ask. Modig is an exercise routine and a group of people, nothing more.

What exactly is a Kegel, and where is the muscle?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that sits at the base of the pelvis, slung across it like a hammock. A Kegel is a deliberate tighten and release of those muscles: a few seconds of lift, the same few seconds of letting go.

The usual way men find them is to imagine pausing halfway through using the bathroom. That small inward lift is the place. You only use the idea to locate it; the exercise itself is done any time, fully dressed, and nobody around you can tell.

Why our sessions open lying down: on your back, the rest of the body asks for almost nothing, so your attention can stay on one small muscle and on letting it go fully.

The positions the timer guides you through

Lying on your backKnees bent, feet flat. Where most sessions begin.
On a chairSeated near the front edge, feet under the knees. Good for a desk.

Lifted from the shouldersThe bridge: lying down, the hips rise off the mat while you tighten, then lower.
Low and wideA deep squat with heels down, holding a doorframe for balance.

How do other couples talk about the bedroom?

Openly, once someone gives them the words. Most couples past 40 have never had a plain conversation about desire, about feeling wanted, or about what a long day leaves of either of them by the time the lights are off.

Modig has a section for the two of you: short readings and conversation prompts, and a set of ways of being with each other described by what they ask of a body after 40. How close you are, how much effort it takes, and who sets the rhythm. Nothing graphic, and nothing she has to open if she'd rather not.

What if I start and quietly drop it by day nine?

It's the most honest question on this list. In our experience men rarely decide to stop. They stop because a busy Tuesday came and nobody noticed. So we built Modig around someone noticing.

Why did other men give it a try?

We asked three members what made them open it the first time. Their words, lightly trimmed.

I'd been meaning to ask somebody about this for two years. Here I could read first and ask nothing. The 7:40 reminder is the reason I opened it again the second week.

EEli R., 58

My wife found the page before I did. We read the bedroom part on the couch and laughed, and then I signed up. I liked that it talked to her too.

DDev S., 46

I'm the type who drops things. Having a partner in the app who sees whether I checked in was the whole reason I tried it.

How many minutes a day is it?

A session runs between 4 and 12 minutes. You choose the length in settings, and the reminder tells you the minutes before you start.

Will anyone see that I use it?

Reminders can show a neutral line instead of the app's name, and the app can sit behind a passcode. In your group you use a first name only.

Can I stop the membership easily?

Yes. Cancel from account settings in the app or write to us. You keep access until the end of the month you've paid for.
